How Dally keeps your walks
Dally's privacy policy · Last updated 8 November 2026
The short version
- Your route, your places and your health readings stay on your iPhone.
- You don't need an account. Without one, Dally sends us nothing.
- If you sign in to walk with friends, we keep each walk's start time, km, steps and minutes, and your everyday km by day. Never where you walk.
- No ads, no trackers, no selling data. Ever.
- You can delete your account, and what we keep, from inside the app.
1. Who we are
Dally is made by Oky Labs Pty Ltd, a company in Melbourne, Australia ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Dally app for iPhone, its lock-screen card, its Control Center control and its share extension, and this website. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988.
Questions about privacy: [email protected].
2. What stays on your iPhone
Most of what Dally knows never leaves your phone. It's kept in Dally's own storage on your iPhone, and we can't see it:
- the GPS route of every walk, and where it started and ended;
- your places, hops, stamps, journeys and postcards;
- your privacy zones;
- walk names and labels (like "with the dog");
- heart rate and everything Dally reads from Apple Health;
- your walker's name and your settings;
- the app's own notes about how it ran (battery, errors). These leave your phone only if you choose to send them to us.
Apple Health. With your permission, Dally reads steps, distance, heart rate and workouts from Apple Health (a watch's too), a watch walk's route to draw its map, your height to guess your stride, and, for All the numbers, your resting and walking heart rate, cardio fitness, step length, walking steadiness and walking speed, only to show them to you. It saves your walks there as workouts with their routes. Data from Apple Health is never used for advertising, never sold, and never sent to us except as the walk totals in section 3: a walk's start time, km, steps and minutes, and your everyday km by day.
Your phone's backup. Like other apps' data, Dally's storage is included in your iPhone's own backup to iCloud or a computer, if you have one turned on. That backup belongs to you and Apple, not us.
Sharing. When you export your walks (a GPX file) or share a picture or video of a walk, it goes only where you send it. Privacy zones hide the parts of a walk inside them on shared pictures and videos. The first and last 200 m of every shared line are always left off, zones or not. Zones don't apply to a GPX export, which is your full record.
3. What we keep when you sign in
You only need an account to add people or walk a road with friends. You sign in with Apple. We ask Apple for your name, not your email address, and Apple tells us a private ID for you.
Once you're signed in, Dally sends our server:
| What | Exactly | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your account | The ID Apple gives us, an account number, and a sign-in session | To know it's you |
| Your name | The name you choose for friends (up to 20 letters) | So friends know who you are |
| Your walker | The walker you picked and its look: hair, skin, outfit | So friends see your walker |
| Your Dally code | A code like TRAM-4826 that you can give to friends | So people can add you |
| Each walk's summary | When it started (to the minute), kilometres (to 10 m), steps, minutes moving, and whether it was outdoors, on a treadmill or from a watch. Never the route, the place or your heart rate | To move your roads along and show your week to friends |
| Everyday steps | If "Count my everyday steps" is on: one distance total a day, and your time zone's offset | So everyday walking counts on roads |
| Roads together | Roads you start or join: the team name you type, its flag and mascot, its dates, your time zone, and who's in it | To run the road |
| People | Who you've added, asked, blocked or reported, and a report's reason and note | To run your people list and keep Dally safe |
| Cheers | Who cheered which walk, and when | To show your cheers |
Steps and distance can come from Apple Health (for example, a watch's steps). They're sent only as the totals above, never as Health samples.
Keeping codes safe. To stop people guessing codes, our server notes when a code is looked up, with a scrambled form of the internet address it came from. These notes are deleted within a day.
4. What other people see
- People you've added see your name, your walker, and your week: which days you walked and your walks' kilometres.
- Your team on a road sees your name, your walker, when you joined, the road's total, and roughly when you last walked (the hour). On a road of two, your kilometres can be worked out from the total.
- Someone you send a request to sees your name and which walker you picked, in its outfit. Your full look shows once they accept.
- Someone with a road's code sees the invite: the road's name, dates, flag and mascot, and the team's first names.
- Nobody sees your route, your places, or where you live. People you block see nothing new from you.
5. Apple, Google and maps
Some features talk to Apple directly. We don't see what's sent, and Apple's privacy policy covers it:
- Maps and place search use Apple Maps. What you type, and the area you're looking at, go to Apple.
- Walking directions on a hop send your current position and the hop's stops to Apple, to work out the way. Your walk's route is never sent.
- Sign in with Apple is Apple's own sheet.
When you share a Google Maps short link into Dally, Dally asks Google once where the link leads, with no cookies, and keeps only the place.
Your camera reads a friend's Dally code. Nothing it sees is kept or sent. Dally only adds to your photo library when you save a picture or clip. When you pick a photo or video for a sticker or clip in Apple's picker, Dally reads only that one and keeps no copy.
6. What we never do
- No advertising, no ad networks, no tracking across apps or websites.
- No analytics or crash-reporting companies inside the app.
- We never sell or rent your information, or share it for marketing.
- We never use Apple Health data for anything but showing you your walks.
This website has no cookies, no trackers, and loads nothing from other sites.
7. How long we keep it, and deleting it
- While you have an account, we keep the data in section 3 until you change it or delete it.
- Deleting a walk removes its summary's numbers from our server and its kilometres from your roads. A marker that the walk was deleted stays, so it isn't sent again. Cheers on it stay until one of you deletes your account.
- Deleting your account (You › Settings › Your data › Delete your account) deletes your account, name, walker, code, walk summaries, everyday totals, people, requests, blocks, reports you made, cheers and road memberships. What stays: the kilometres you added to a road's total (no longer linked to you), the name of a road you started, and any report someone made about you, which keeps your name as it was so we can act on it. The walks on your iPhone stay.
- Delete everything on this phone (You › Settings › Your data) empties Dally on your iPhone and signs you out there. Your account stays until you delete it.
- If you can't use the app, email us from the Apple ID you signed in with and we'll delete your account within 30 days.
8. Where it's stored, and keeping it safe
Our server runs on Supabase, in its Sydney data centre in Australia. Supabase stores the data for us and may keep short technical logs (like the internet address of a request) to run and protect the service. Data travels encrypted.
Only we can read the server's data. Each person can read only what section 4 says they can see, and the server checks this on every request.
9. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we keep about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected]. We'll reply within 30 days.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, tell us first. If we don't fix it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
10. Children
Dally isn't made for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has made an account, email us and we'll delete it.
11. Changes, and how to reach us
When this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top and say here what changed.
8 November 2026: we now list every kind of Apple Health data Dally reads, the minutes and everyday km in a walk's summary, the 200 m always left off a shared line, the photo picker, and the lock-screen card, Control Center control and share extension.
